The public realm upgrade of St. Brigid’s Road, Drumcondra, Dublin 9 as commissioned by Dublin City Council, has stemmed from the need for greener and more liveable spaces within the city environs. The overall vision for the city is an area wide tree planting strategy, which champions best environmental practice, promotes sustainable innovation and increases the tree canopy cover, city wide.
GLA in association with the Dublin City Council Parks Department and ROD Consulting Engineers, proposed the introduction of twelve ‘Urban Garden Tree Bays’. These Urban Garden structures consist of a granite curbing buildout, with a central vegetative area and a single evergreen flowering tree in each. The goal of the project was to provide a more amenable living environment & a greener city space. GLA initiated public consultations with local residents & community groups to ensure the project was positively received as it was the first of its kind in the city.
